It Never Rains but It Pours....

A rainy drive on I-25 in New Mexico

[BLOG POST 08/19/24] Do you know that phrase, "It never rains but it pours"? My dad used to say it a lot and it's come true for me this summer. But not in a bad way! In fact, I mean it in the best possible way because I've been fortunate to have artwork selected for three juried shows.

First was "Local Color 2" at the Las Vegas Arts Council in Las Vegas, NM, which included my painting "Winter's Gifts".

This show was really fun because the original show "Local Color" was the very first show in which I ever showed my artwork. At that time they selected my painting "Sleeping Peppers" and I was incredibly proud. This time around I'm an "old pro" at art shows but it's always fun and exciting to have an opportunity to show your artwork to the world.

"Local Color 2" will be open to the public until Sunday August 25th. Stop by if you can because the variety of artwork by local artists on display is impressive. If you can't make it to see the artwork in person here is a link to a video of the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpQ_3kS_ez4

Next up is "Celebration of Women" at The Corner Gallery on the historic Plaza in Las Vegas, NM which includes my painting "Hail the Egg".

This show will open to great fanfare (live music, games, food) on Saturday August 24th. When I dropped off my painting I had a chance to see some of the other artwork selected for the show and was impressed. Artists from all over New Mexico are participating including many that are new to me. Again, if you have a chance to stop in I think you'll enjoy the variety.

Last is the "Eleventh Annual New Mexico Painter's Exhibition" at the Kennedy Gallery on the New Mexico Highlands University campus which will include my painting "Regime Change".

When we first moved to Las Vegas I went to this show and hoped to someday be in it. Now this will be my 2nd time in this show. Yay!

Earlier today I dropped my painting off and because it was the first day of drop off not many paintings were there. But they did have color print outs of each painting to be included in the show so I got a little preview that way. Again, it looks like it will be a very interesting show and I encourage you to check it out if you can. It will be up Sept 15 - Oct 31 with an artists reception on Sept 15th from 4pm-7pm.

I would be remiss if I didn't also mention my own solo art show, "Rattlesnakes: 13 Soft Pastel Portraits of Fierce and Resilient Women Born and/or Raised in NE New Mexico" at Gallery OneSixSix on Bridge Street in Las Vegas, NM. I am CRAZY excited for this show despite also feeling a little nervous and overwhelmed with everything I need to do to make it as successful as possible.

So you can see dear reader that it's been a busy and exciting summer / fall for getting my artwork out into the world. Or at least out into Las Vegas, NM. 😊 I hope to see you at one of these shows!
