[BLOG POST 7/16/24] Some good news today dear reader! My painting "Owning the Joke"was selected for the 16th annual juried online show "Women Artist Making Their Mark" by the O'Hanlon Center in Mill Valley, CA. 1103 works were submitted and 79 works were selected, I was lucky enough to be one of them!
The online show dates and July 23 to Oct 1, 2024 and there will be a Zoom Roundtable with the selected artists and Jurors on Tuesday, July 30 at 4 pm Pacific Time. I don't have the links yet but when I do I'll post them on my website and on Instagram.
I'm especially grateful because over the past few months I've entered quite a few shows and have not been selected.
Each show requires quite a bit of effort as they each have different requirements for the image (for example this show required the the file type be JPEG or JPG only, file dimensions of 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, the file size must be under 5 MB, and the color profile be sRGB) plus there are file name requirements, specific word counts for artist statement and/or artist bio, eligibility requirements, and fees.
In other words, each show asks a lot, and by the time I do all of those things and submit by the deadline I really hope I get in the show.
However since I've been seeing a lot of "no thank you" emails I seem to be growing a thicker skin. Hearing "no" is just part of the artist's life.
Still...that doesn't make it a fun part. 😉
But it does provide an opportunity to remember WHY I make art in the first place which is because I have to. It is who I am regardless of any exterior recognition or reward. ❤️
