Meet “Auntie Letty”!

 

Born and raised in Las Vegas, NM, Letty is a breast cancer survivor who inspired me by showing that you can enjoy life despite suffering from chronic pain. In fact, not only is she enjoying life but at the time of her portrait she was challenging herself to complete her college degree which had been interrupted by family obligations earlier in her life. People asked her what she would do with her degree: start a new career? teach? open her own business? Her answer? Simply to “revel in the accomplishment!” 

 

I was lucky to attend her graduation party in 2024 and can atest that she is fulfilling her dream and fully revelling in her accomplishments.

 

In her portrait I captured her resolve to choose happiness over pain and to see the beauty in the complex world around us.
