Meet Janie! 

 

Born in Oakland, CA, to parents from San Jose, NM, and Las Vegas, NM, they eventually moved back and raised her in Las Vegas, NM. We met at the Plaza Hotel's Byron T's saloon where she was singing jazz with the local band Contrafact.

 

In addition to being a talented vocalist, musician, and artist, she is a fierce fighter for her beliefs. Before retiring she was a visionary educator and tirelessly fought for her students.

 

Janie loves to laugh and smile but when I explained the vision of this portrait series she showed me her vulnerability, her love of her family, and her resolve. I am impressed with Janie’s creative spirit that shines bright in everything she does and captured both her determination and her joy in her portrait.
